Hyde was born in Wakayama, Japan as Hideto Takarai.
By his words he was a shy kid at the elementary school, most of the time played alone.
Hyde was obsessed by drawing.
“I had loved to draw from young age, even after childhood I was only interested by drawing. I felt that everything else was a waste of time. My goal was very clear; no one else around me was like me because I had made my decision from a young age. There was nothing else for me than drawing.”
Unfortunately Hyde has color weakness; he was unable to recognize colors.
Hyde started at his first band “Jerusalem’s Rod” as guitarist.
“In the end, guitar didn’t work out. I think I figured that out about a week later.” Hyde admits.
And then started to write songs and joined L’arc-en-Ciel at 1991. And things worked. (The name of the band means Rainbow translated from French).
“Writing songs was the same as drawing” he says. “I was creating something.”
Except his music career Hyde accept his first role in the movie Moon Child from 2003 produced by Gackt. Long time Hyde refuses to play the role when Gackt himself went to his house to ask him.
"Everyone said Hyde had been ignoring to all invitations from the movie industries, and he wouldn't say yes this time also. So I said to them. "If no one will go, then I'll go visit Hyde on my own and I'll talk to him." First Hyde seemed surprised. But I said I don't want anyone else to take his place. That role (Kei) can be done only by Hyde, and I can't think about another different person to do that character. And Hyde said he will, after all.”
Hyde and Gackt had a song together which was added to movie soundtrack, the song is called “Orenji no taiyou”
One year later Hyde plays his second and last role as Adam at Last quarter. He is performing the soundtrack to the movie “The cape of storms”, the reason many of his future fans to look for more of his music.
The reason Hyde to become a singer at L’arc-en-Ciel is actually Tetsu – their bassist who helped him make that decision.
Hyde is an animal lover, but allergic to cats. Love winter sports and snowboarding.
Without quit his work with L’arc-en-Ciel, Hyde has his own solo project called VAMPS which started at 2008 including K.A.Z. as guitarist.
“VAMPS is closer to my ideal” Hyde says. “When I first played in a band, I was into horror hardcore, like Misfits and Gastunk.”
Only year after the band was formed they go to their first international tour, and in 2010 – first world tour.
